As a concerned American citizen, the governance and future of our great nation deeply affect me, and subsequently, my fellow citizens. We see the necessity for change in the structure and standards set for our elected officials, a change that would not only add freshness and vitality to the governance but also allow for a more diverse representation of our population.

I propose the implementation of a term limit of 8 years for all elected officials, comparable to our presidency. According to the Congressional Research Service, the average tenure of a Member of Congress has increased from 10 years in 1987 to 12 years in 2020. Set term limits would renew the congressional ypalate, allowing for diverse and contemporary ideas which reflect the changing reality of our society.

In addition, a cut-off age of 70 is proposed for all USA elected officials. In the 116th Congress, the average age of Members was 57.6 years, the highest in congressional history. Younger voices in power could bring forth innovation and a more accurate representation of the younger demographic.
