I am a suicide survivor, and have lost family members to suicide. This deeply personal experience has made me realize the urgent need for comprehensive suicide prevention education in our schools. In Clawson, we are not immune to this crisis. We must act now to protect our children and youth.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 15 and 24 in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). It's clear that we need more proactive measures to address this issue, starting with education.

We propose that Clawson Public Schools implements a comprehensive suicide prevention program as part of its curriculum. This would include teaching students about mental health, recognizing signs of distress among peers, understanding how to seek help for themselves or others, and breaking down stigmas surrounding mental health issues.

By implementing such a program, we can equip our children with knowledge and resources they need to navigate their own mental health challenges or assist someone else who may be struggling.
