Implement Stronger Measures to Curb Crime and Anti-Social Behavior in Sutton Communities

Implement Stronger Measures to Curb Crime and Anti-Social Behavior in Sutton Communities
The Issue
On a regular Tuesday evening, one of the pupil from local grammar school was walking with his friend to Wallington station after school.A boy, almost his age, approached him on the high street. Under the pretext of checking out his school tracksuit, this boy cornered the local school boy.He headlocked him and grabbed his neck while shouting aggressively. This incident is not isolated and it's part of a larger problem plaguing our community in Sutton, Carshalton and Wallington , over the week similar incidents have been reported in another two local schools. There has been an attempt to mug a student just outside one of the grammar schools in Wallington, unsuccessful attempt of intrusion by two people in the same grammar school, stabbing in Sutton that resulted in death, mugging of a school student at Cheam Park at a knife point etc.
Everyone has the right to live without the fear of facing crime and anti-social behaviour. To leave their home without dreading intimidation from neighbours, .Crime and anti-social behavior have been on the rise in our area for some time now. It's become increasingly common for children and young people to fall victim to these acts of aggression and intimidation on their way home from school or while simply going about their daily lives. Crime and anti-social behaviour makes us feel unwelcome, like we’re not wanted or loved, don’t feel we belong here. We have left with so many questions in our head when we don’t know who is doing it or why – it does affect our emotional wellbeing. We don’t feel safe here all the time and we don’t know what is going to happen next.
Having to live in fear everyday, until the kids reach home safely is appalling. We all try to educate kids and ourselves as much as possible about safety but it is a bigger problem if these crime incidents take on the confidence from people resulting in people being unable to continue their day to day activities like going to the schools/ work places/gym, sports/ music centres, local parks etc. Young kids should feel safe enough to hang around with friends and explore. They learn a lot that way. Increasing crime makes parents and kids hesitate before getting out of the house unless it is mandatory. This is clearly affecting lives!
All of this need to stop before it becomes an even bigger problem! We request every helpful action to be taken to control this and I'm sure we get enough support to do the same.
Local authorities need to take stronger measures against such incidents that are causing fear and distress among residents. Our children should be able to walk home without fearing for their safety or experiencing traumatic events like this pupil did. We urge local authorities in Sutton, Carshalton and Wallington to increase surveillance around schools during closing hours, implement stricter penalties for juvenile offenders, enhance community policing efforts, provide more resources towards crime prevention programs aimed at young people, and foster an environment where every resident feels safe.
This petition isn't just about one incident; it's about making sure no other child has to go through what the local school pupil and all other communities are experiencing everyday.
Please sign this petition if you believe that our local authorities must do more than they currently are doing to curb crime and anti-social behavior in Sutton, Carshalton and Wallington.
