Implement Stricter Sentences for Sex Offenders and Child Abusers

Implement Stricter Sentences for Sex Offenders and Child Abusers
The Issue
For too long, horror stories have made headlines where the innocent fall prey to sexual predators or are mortally threatened by those with a history of offending. As someone continuously disturbed by such incidents, I no longer want to stay silent.
Repeatedly, we see instances where criminals with a dire past slip through the judicial system's cracks, only to destroy more lives. A study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics in the US shows that within three years of release, 5.3% of sex offenders were rearrested for another sex crime. In the case of child molesters, 3.3% were rearrested for another crime against a child. These numbers might seem low and some cases are unreported by victims, but given the gravity of these crimes, even a single repeat offender is far too many.
We must safeguard the vulnerable among us. It starts by petitioning for more stringent sentences for sex offenders and child abusers, hindering them from repeating these atrocious crimes once released. We are calling for law reform that ensures these individuals serve longer and full sentences. If we can not keep offenders in prison indefinitely, then they must not be let out until they are evaluated and monitored permanently when released.
Let's hold our judicial system responsible. Sign this petition to enforce stricter punishment for individuals that do these heinous acts, thus ensuring our society's safety. Let us all contribute towards creating a world where falling victim to repeat offenders becomes an anomaly rather than an increasingly common horror story.
