Implement Stricter Regulations for Dog Owners in Latta, OK

The Issue

I am a resident of Latta, OK and a dog owner. In March of 2024, my beloved pet was brutally attacked by two loose pitbulls through our chainlink fence. After a month of trying to save her leg, we had to amputate due to significant tissue damage and severed nerves.... She lost her leg and broke her nose from the attack. In May 2024, another pitbull came on my property and tried to attack my smallest dog through the fence. I was able to get there on time, but the moment was very scary and the dog was aggressive towards me as well.

This incident is not isolated; many others in our community have experienced similar situations due to irresponsible dog owners.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, approximately 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year in the United States. Of these cases, nearly 20% require medical attention (American Veterinary Medical Association). Our community should not contribute to this statistic due to negligence.

Here is the problem... Though we have an Ada address, we are outside of city limits in a small community known as Latta, OK. Although we are outside of city limits, we have a large community here with churches, daycares and a public school. But since we aren't technically in city limits, Ada police has refused to help us. The sheriff's office has also been unhelpful, and quite frankly, pretty rude. We need help. Please sign this petition so APD and the Sheriff's Office will pay attention to us. We need stricter regulations for dog owners in Latta, OK to ensure that all pets and their owners feel safe within their own homes and neighborhoods. This includes mandatory leash laws and severe penalties for those who fail to control their dogs properly.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for safer neighborhoods free from fear of vicious dog attacks. We owe it not only to ourselves and our children, but also our four-legged friends who depend on us for their safety. Please sign this petition today and help me make my community a safer place!
