The Issue
Living near poultry farms has become unbearable for many of us. It's not just the unpleasant smell, but the health risks that come with it. Many residents, including myself, suffer from various health disorders such as COPD, eczema, and sinus issues due to the conditions surrounding these farms. The air is filled with harmful particles, and our water sources are at risk of contamination. The pollution in the environment makes it impossible for us to enjoy our homes, whether it's simple activities like doing yard work or hosting family cookouts. These farms are also susceptible to wharf rat infestations to nearby homes. They can cause severe structural and electrical damage to the homes. They pose as a significant health risk to humans and pets by spreading dangerous diseases through their saliva, urine, fecal waste and blood. Poultry farmers should adhere to stricter guidelines to ensure the health and well-being of the communities around them. It should also be mandatory for farmers to spread lime and plough the manure after it's been spread in the fields. This practice can drastically reduce the harmful emissions that impact our air quality. Secondly, manure should not be spread within 1000 feet of homes and businesses, providing a safer environment for all residents. The foul smell and potential water contamination from nearby fields are too significant a threat to ignore. Moreover, during transportation, trucks hauling manure should be required to cover their loads, preventing debris and harmful particles from spreading across our highways. Not only does this create a cleaner environment, but it also reduces the risk of accidents caused by debris on the roads. Live trucks should also be mandated to have mesh covers to minimize litter debris. These measures will ensure that poultry farm operations are conducted responsibly and with due regard for the health of nearby families. By implementing these guidelines, we can foster a healthier and more livable community. I urge the concerned authorities to enforce these necessary regulations for the welfare of all community members. Please sign this petition to support healthier living conditions near poultry farms and advocate for changes that will protect us all.
