The Issue

Living with the fear of being stalked is a reality that I have personally faced. As a victim of stalking, I have witnessed firsthand the ways in which the justice system falls short in protecting women. Tragically, this failure has led many women to feel hopeless, with some even taking their own lives due to the relentless harassment they endure. It is time to take action.

The growing prevalence of stalking cases makes it imperative for us to demand stricter laws and heightened penalties for offenders. Current penalties are proving insufficient in deterring stalkers, leaving victims in perpetual fear. Each year, thousands of women report stalking incidents, yet only a fraction face adequate legal consequences. Studies have shown that, without strict interventions, stalkers often escalate their behavior, putting victims at greater risk.

I am calling for legislation that enacts stricter punishment for stalking offenses. Immediate penalties should be enhanced, and for persistent offenders, a rule should be established where after five stalking offenses, the stalker faces a mandatory prison sentence of a minimum of four months. Such measures would not only provide justice for victims but also act as a deterrent, signalling that stalking will not be tolerated.

Law enforcement agencies and judicial systems must receive adequate training and resources to identify, track, and prosecute stalkers efficiently. This includes dedicated units focused on handling stalking and harassment cases, ensuring victims' safety and swift judicial response.

This change requires your support. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a safer, more just society where women and all victims of stalking feel protected and can live without fear. Stand with us in demanding a justice system that prioritizes the safety and dignity of every individual against the crime of stalking. Please sign this petition to make a change.
