Desiree's life was tragically affected by these heinous crimes, and it's time to change the laws to prevent further victims. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime reports that nearly 500,000 people die each year due to drug use (World Drug Report 2020). Moreover, the International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally (Global Estimates of Modern Slavery). These alarming statistics show a dire need for more stringent laws against such crimes. By implementing 'The Desiree Martin Law', we can ensure harsher punishments for those involved in these activities, thereby deterring potential criminals and safeguarding our society from this menace.
