I have personally witnessed the detrimental effects fireworks displays can have on horses. My own horse, along with others I've known, have repeatedly experienced distress due to fireworks displays being held too close and without prior notice. This is not an isolated incident, rather a problem that plagues equestrians nationwide. Changes are needed immediately to protect the wellbeing of horses. 

In fact, a study conducted by the British Horse Society highlighted that 62% of horse owners reported their animals being startled by fireworks, resulting in increased stress and sometimes even injury (British Horse Society, 2018). The loud noises and bright flashes of light can trigger panic responses in horses, provoking potentially dangerous behaviors that risk both equine and human safety. Current regulations do little to keep horses safe from these terrifying situations.

The petition seeks to enforce harsher rules on fireworks usage around equine animals and mandate a safer distance for fireworks displays in relation to horse stables and pasture lands. Especially where private displays are concerned. This change would not only maintain the tranquility and security of our equine companions but will also contribute to the safety of the community as a whole. We call upon lawmakers to take action - for the welfare of horses everywhere.
