Implement Stricter Laws Against Animal Neglect,Abuse and Accountability/Cherokee county,NC
The Issue
I am a resident of Murphy, North Carolina, and I have witnessed an alarming number of animals running loose, starving, neglected, and dying. The owners responsible for these atrocities face no consequences for their actions. This is an ongoing issue that has spiraled out of control while authorities seemingly turn a blind eye. It's time to make changes.
In Cherokee County alone, countless animals are subjected to neglect and abuse daily. These innocent creatures suffer at the hands of those who should be caring for them - their owners. It is not acceptable what these animals are enduring in North Carolina. It is also unacceptable that animal owners are not being held accountable for the harm that their animals cause by attacking other animals, people, and livestock due to running loose.
We need stricter laws against animal neglect and abuse in our county to hold these individuals accountable for their actions. Current regulations do not provide adequate protection or punishment for those who harm animals.
The American Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (ASPCA) reports that nearly 1 million animals fall victim to abuse each year nationwide (ASPCA). In North Carolina specifically, there were over 10 thousand cases reported last year (Animal Legal Defense Fund). However, the true number may be much higher due to underreporting.
It's time we take a stand against this cruelty happening right here in our community. We demand that local lawmakers revise existing laws on animal welfare in Cherokee County – making them more stringent with harsher penalties for offenders.
By signing this petition you will help us send a clear message: Animal neglect and abuse will not be tolerated in Cherokee County or anywhere else! And it's time for those owners should be held accountable. Please sign this petition today – let's give voice to those who cannot speak up themselves.
