Implement Strict Speed Limit Enforcement on Campbellville Rd, Halton & Hamilton

The Issue

Recently, a neighbour was waiting to turn left into her driveway along Campbellville Rd when a car came speeding up from behind. The speeding driver had to swerve into a hydro pole to prevent an accident. This is not an isolated incident. There have been many instances of cars trying to overtake on hills with no visibility, endangering the lives of residents and other road users.

Campbellville Road in Halton & Hamilton, Ontario is home to many residences and should be treated as such - not as an alternative highway for those avoiding the 401. The reckless driving behaviour witnessed here has become increasingly common and poses significant risks. In addition, many large trucks drive along Campbellville Rd despite the fact that there are signs showing “No Trucks” on most sections of the road.

Statistics show that speed is one of the leading factors in fatal road accidents (source: Transport Canada). In addition, residential areas like ours are particularly vulnerable due to high recreational activity such as cycling, as well as school buses.

We call on local law enforcement agencies and city officials in Halton & Hamilton, Ontario - where this issue hits close to home - for stricter speed limit enforcement along Campbellville Rd. We also urge for increased traffic calming measures such as speed barriers and/or radar signs that display vehicle speeds, “No Passing” signs on blind hills and School Bus route signs.

The safety of our community members should never be compromised by reckless drivers using our streets as their personal race tracks. Please sign this petition if you agree that urgent action needs to be taken now before it's too late.
