Implement Strict Regulations for WWASP-like Rehabilitation Programs

The Issue

As a parent, I experienced firsthand the horrifying fallout of what programs can do to young children. My children, at the tender age of kindergarten, were subjected to the unregulated practices of a program that taught the child to be very independent for a month. When they attended a traditional school, I was pulled aside and asked about the school they attended as my children were afraid to touch toys or do normal childhood behaviors.

The trauma children at residential WWASP-like programs rob them of their childhood. My limited experience of the damage abusive individuals can have on your child in a short time scares me to imagine the substantially worse damage that would occur to these children in a residential setting.

WWASP programs operate with little to no oversight, resulting in an environment where children are subjected to systematic abuse, and parents are often unaware of the circumstances they're financing. The absence of steadfast regulations allows these programs to change names and reopen even after shutdowns, a practice which aids in perpetuating the cycle of harm these programs can inflict on the innocent.

Unfortunately, The Program’s survivors ordeal is far from unique. The reality is that there are countless others who have faced or are currently experiencing the same ordeal. That we stand helpless, bound by the absence of operational regulations for these programs, reflects a startling oversight that demands immediate attention.

The scars of neglect and abuse are deeper than what the eyes can behold. The emotional and psychological damage these children have to endure under these programs is a critical issue that requires whistleblowing and nipping in the bud.

Let us call upon our local leaders, our deputies in Congress, and everyone else in our communities - it is high time we championed strict regulations for systematic programs like WWASP. Our collective voice can help stem this remorseless tide of abuse, and ensure a safer, nurturing environment for our children. Sign this petition and stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Let us be the change they need.
