Stop Rickshaw Overcharging in Mumbra – Enforce Official Fare Chart Now!

Every day, thousands of commuters in Mumbra, Thane, are forced to pay inflated auto-rickshaw fares that go beyond the officially approved fare chart. Despite a circular issued by the Thane RTO on 16 April 2025 (Outward No. थाने/परिवहन/ऑटो रिक्षा विभाग/२०२४), rickshaw drivers continue to flout the rules by:

Charging flat ₹15 or more for short shared routes, even though the official base fare is ₹12

Refusing to go by the meter

Lack of fare chart display at rickshaw stands

Overcharging on routes like Mumbra–Kausa, Shilphata, Wafa Hill, and Mumbra Station

The public suffers daily due to the inaction of authorities.

Mumbra Pravasi Sangh has already submitted follow-up letters demanding 

Strict enforcement of fare regulations
Deployment of traffic and RTO officers for routine checks
Display of official banners with fare charts at all rickshaw stands
Penalties for drivers violating the law
We urge the Thane RTO and local transport department to immediately act and bring relief to the residents of Mumbra who rely on rickshaws as their daily transport.
