Implement Speed Cameras on Tyldesley Road for Safer Streets

The Issue

As a resident of the Tyldesley road neighborhood, I have personally witnessed the perils of unchecked speeding more times than I care to recount. Just recently, our community has experienced two horrific instances where cars, moving at irresponsibly high speeds, have crashed into the walls of houses. We are grateful no one was severely injured, but the emotional distress and property damage caused by these mishaps are immeasurable.

Road fatalities are not mere statistics to be ignored. According to the World Health Organization, speeding is identified as a key risk factor in road traffic injuries, contributing to around 1/3rd of all fatalities in high-income countries. In the UK, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has reported a staggering 17,000 accidents in 2019, due to improper speed alone.

Tyldesley road is our home, and it's high time for definitive action. We are calling on local authorities to install speed cameras along this road. Countries that have introduced speed cameras have seen a reduction in average speeds and therefore smaller numbers of crashes and casualties. For instance, Sweden saw a 41% reduction in fatal accidents post-implementation of speed cameras.

By signing this petition, you can play a key role in ensuring our streets are safer and happier places to be. Changes are needed, and they are needed now. Please, sign this petition and demand the immediate installation of speed cameras on Tyldesley road.
