Our neighborhood has turned into a hazard due to highly unsafe driving practices. Drivers are racing down our street at speeds as high as 50 mph, with no law enforcement around to prevent this recklessness. The absence of any form of speed control measures like speed bumps leaves us all at high risk, more so the children that frequent our street. As the son-in-law of someone who runs a local daycare, I witness parents' reactions to the non-stop speeding cars. Even the neighbors I talk to are just as concerned and are aware that this is a problem that needs to be resolved. We believe that installing speed bumps on our street will slow down traffic, reducing the potential for harmful accidents and make our neighborhood safer for everyone, especially the children. Speed bumps have been shown to decrease vehicle speed by 40% on average, making streets significantly safer (NACTO Urban Street Design Guide).
