Implement speed bumps and crosswalks on Cedar Hills Drive
The Issue
We live on or near Cedar Hills Drive in Cedar Hills, UT, and as parents grandparents of small children, we know the daily challenge of ensuring their safety as they cross the crosswalks and use the sidewalks to get to school. The traffic speed on Cedar Hills Drive is a constant danger, making it nearly impossible to back out of our driveways safely. Every day, our concern grows as we witness drivers zooming past with little regard for the designated speed limits.
It's not just a handful of families affected—it's our entire community. Many of us have voiced our concerns, hoping for changes that ensure the safety of all residents, especially our children. Yet, despite our repeated pleas, significant action has not been taken. This is why we are petitioning for the urgent installation of speed bumps and crosswalks along Cedar Hills Drive.
Studies have shown that speed bumps are effective in reducing vehicle speeds and making neighborhoods safer. Moreover, the misconception that speed bumps significantly delay emergency vehicles has been debunked. According to a report published by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, carefully placed speed bumps do not hinder emergency response times, and they have not resulted in patient delays that impact mortality rates. Implementing speed bumps can therefore be a strategic approach to traffic calming without compromising emergency services.
In addition to speed bumps, we propose the establishment of four-way stops at key intersections along Cedar Hills Drive. These measures would not only slow down traffic but also ensure that our most vulnerable residents—our children—can cross the street safely at all times.
We urge the City Council of Cedar Hills and the local traffic authorities to take immediate action. The safety of our community is paramount, and your support can make a pivotal difference.
Help us protect our children and make Cedar Hills Drive a safer place for everyone. Please sign this petition to show your support for these critical safety measures.
