The Issue

As a mother, I've experienced firsthand the damaging effects of school bullying on my children - two sons who have suffered bullying for 4 years in the LAUSD school system. This seemingly unending torment has brought about anger, resentment, and altercations between them at home. This ordeal is not unique to our family alone. Countless others suffer in silence, showing us not only the prevalence of this issue but its potential to lead children into the juvenile justice system - a path I deeply fear for my boys.

In 2011, California passed a law named after a bullied 13-year-old named Seth, who took his own life. Known as "Seth's Law" (AB 9), it was enacted to foster a safer and discrimination-free environment in all California public schools. Yet, it appears that the implementation of this law has been woefully lacking.

Statistics show that approximately 1 in 5 students in California report being bullied at school, a distressingly high number that speaks volumes about the inefficacy of existing measures (Source: California Department of Education 2019). Bullying, whether physical, verbal, or through cyber-means, leaves long-term impacts - including mental health issues, behavioral problems, and academic struggles, among others.

It's time to take a stand. We need your help to demand stricter enforcement of Seth's Law in all California schools, thereby ensuring that our children are protected from bullying. It's our duty to provide a secure learning environment for our children. Together, we can push for real, lasting change. Please, sign this petition and help protect our children from the horrors of bullying.
