As residents and friends/family of residents in communities along the Old Fannin Road corridor, we have personally seen the danger posed by the intersection of Old Fannin Rd. and McLaurin Dr. There have been multiple serious accidents on this road, and the opening of East Metro Parkway has increased the traffic volume significantly. Speeding is rampant, making it perilous for families, especially those with beginner drivers, to leave their neighborhoods. It's alarming to consider that in the US, more than 50% of all fatal crashes occur at or near an intersection, and this is a statistic to which we do not wish to contribute. We urge the MDOT authorities to install a sensor-controlled traffic light at this intersection, not just to prevent potential accidents, but to also regulate traffic and curb speeding. This simple yet effective solution can help our community feel safer and more secure. Every signature on this petition pushes us one step closer to improving the safety standards of our neighborhood roads.
