Implement Security Cameras in the Waubonsie Valley Parking lot

The Issue

As a Waubonsie Valley High School senior, I frequently drive through and traverse the hectic Waubonsie Parking lot. In my experience, stacking hundreds of first-year or second-year drivers in a tight space doesn't fare well at the end of the day when hundreds of students are rushing off campus to get home. Inevitably there will be crashes and I have experienced and witnessed minor bumps and incidents in the parking lot at least twice a month. Currently, there are only security cameras at the base of the building by the auditorium entrance and near the tennis courts which do not provide adequate CCTV coverage of the entire area . According to Donaldson Law, an average of 50,000 crashes occur yearly in parking lots resulting in over 60,000 injuries. They also conducted a survey which concluded that 60% of student drivers are likely to be preoccupied with their phones while in the parking lot (Donaldson Law LLC). While a serious accident is unlikely to occur in the WV parking lot, this change is just another way to keep students and staff safe.

By signing this petition you are actively showing your concern and involvement in the safety and well-being of a majority of Waubonsie Students. Using this footage, WV staff and superintendents can effectively funnel traffic out of the building and create effective solutions to the already chaotic parking scene at WV. Cast your signature to finally bring  change to an every-day amenity for WV students.
