Implement Safety Measures at the Cedar Crossing Neighborhood Intersection

Implement Safety Measures at the Cedar Crossing Neighborhood Intersection
The Issue
I am a resident of the Cedar Crossing neighborhood in Lakeville, MN, and have personally experienced the dangers of our local intersection at Hamburg Ave and 202nd St W. I've witnessed a rollover crash involving two elderly adults, near crashes, and have been involved in an accident myself where I was hit head on at my drivers side. This is not just about me; it's about all of us who live here and face these risks daily just trying to get in and out of our neighborhood.
The Dakota county government has been assessing this intersection for some time now. We understand that such assessments take time but we urge them to finalize their evaluation as soon as possible. The safety of our community members is at stake every day this issue remains unresolved. It is only a matter of time before there is a fatality because of their inability to act.
We are asking for either a controlled exit out of the neighborhood or other safety measures that will make entry and exit safer for residents. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), intersections can be high-risk locations for crashes; in fact, 40% of all crashes occur at intersections. All of the exits out of our neighborhood are uncontrolled and across divided high ways - we don’t have a safe option!
Our request aligns with broader public safety concerns and initiatives across the country to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. We believe that implementing these changes will significantly improve safety conditions not only for us residents but also for visitors coming into our neighborhood.
We ask you to join us in urging Dakota county government to prioritize this matter urgently - because every day counts when it comes to preventing another potential accident or tragedy on our roads. Please sign this petition today!
