Implement Safer Mail Clusters/Mailboxes to Prevent Break-Ins

The Issue

Please share with your neighbors and friends.  Residents of Nantucket, The Carlyle, Bella Vista, Mansion Grove, Estancia, 550 Moreland, Rivermark Terrace, Mission Terrace, Mission Gardens, KB Toscana, Rivermark and other Northside homes and apartments complexes - we need your signature!

In the heart of Santa Clara, residents are facing a growing crisis as thieves continue to break into mail clusters/mailboxes, stealing valuable items and compromising private information. This troubling situation has personally affected so many as valuable documents were stolen, which delayed travel plans and payment of bills. The loss has not merely a financial one but an immense emotional burden as well.

Our community relies on the safety and security of our mail systems to receive not just everyday mail but also important items such as passports, driver’s licenses, credit cards, and even personal gifts. These thefts appear highly organized, targeting specific mail clusters where the master keys have been stolen, providing easy access to criminals seeking to exploit this vulnerability.

Data from across the country supports the urgent need for enhanced postal security. According to the United States Postal Inspection Service, mail thefts have increased by 56% over the past two years. This alarming rise in mail theft not only invades personal privacy but also creates significant risks of identity theft for countless individuals.

We call upon the Federal Government, local Postal Inspectors, the Santa Clara Police Department, and affiliated agencies of USPS to address this pressing issue. Implementing enhanced security measures such as using more secure lock systems, installing surveillance cameras, and increasing patrols around mail clusters would serve as strong deterrents against future thefts.

Immediate action can prevent further violations, protect our community’s private information, and rebuild trust in the safety of our mail services.

The community is urging authorities to expedite the implementation of these critical, protective measures. Please sign this petition to enhance the security of our mail clusters/mailboxes and protect our communities from further harm.

Kathy WatanabePetition StarterThe 10 PM curfew from Sun-Thurs and 11 PM on Friday and Saturday was a condition of approval that the City and 49ers agreed to in 2010 before the agreement to build Stadium was approved. If the stadium was managed properly, we wouldn't have these issues.
