Implement Safe Color Saturation on Spotify Lyrics Backgrounds

The Issue

Brightly colored backgrounds on the Spotify Lyrics feature are harmful to the eyes, cause headaches and can trigger cognitive related episodes such as migraines and epileptic seizures.

In 2021 Spotify implemented real-time synced lyrics to the music on the Spotify app worldwide, a great feature for anyone who likes singing along!

However, many people are affected by a faulty design choice in the lyrics feature, in what is supposed to be a fun interactive feature where the background colors change per song; (possibly influenced by album colors) instead a lot of upset, pain and discomfort is the result of high color saturation.

People with high sensitivity to visual stimulations are at risk of headaches and especially people with sensitivity to flashing colors (those impacted by epileptic episodes) are kept from a comfortable and safe experience.

Above is an example of a song with a much more calming background, adding a button to toggle the color-changing-feature off to make the app more accessible or toning down the color saturation all together (not necessarily to gray) would be a simple and quick solution.

About as soon as the feature was implemented, people have been issuing complaints on Spotify's community forum, but to no avail.

If enough people bring this issue to the attention of Spotify it would force them to finally update the lyrics feature so that everyone can safely enjoy the app.

Though it is greatly appreciated especially now, during Disability Pride/Awareness Month, it surely would make everyone's experience more pleasant to not be bombarded with these unsafe colors.

It would also be helpful to share the status of the petition with Spotify on Twitter:

And to upvote this suggestion on the community forum to help bring it to more people's attention, as well as to boost it to Spotify's attention.
