Implement Revisions to the 10,000-lbs Property Weight Limit Ordinance in Old Port Wentworth
The Issue
As long-standing residents of Old Port Wentworth, a beautiful neighborhood known for its vibrant history dating back to 1733, we are deeply concerned with the Council's current weight limit ordinance placed on personal property, not to exceed 10,000 lbs. This policy is believed to prevent what the Council deems as "eye-sores" or the devaluation of property. However, we stand firm in our belief that this is a violation of our rights which has been not only disregarded, but also unjustly enforced. Our community is steadily losing privileges that were honored for generations.
Our neighborhood thrives on the balance between tradition and modern advancements. There can be alternatives put in place, like paving pads or driveways, for Recreational/Work Vehicles, and painting/planting flowers/gravel or cement pad shipping containers for storage/studios, which will help maintain the aesthetic appeal of our historic neighborhood without imposing on our rights or significantly altering the landscape.
The plight is not simply an infringement on our individual rights, but an erasure of our community privileges that have been integral to our way of life for decades. This invocation is not to abolish the weight limit ordinance entirely, but rather to incite revision in a way that respects both the rights of the citizens and the historic value of our neighborhood.
Recognizing the implications of such regulations, we ask you to join us in our pursuit for a balanced solution. We need your voice to make sure that Old Port Wentworth remains a place where respect for citizens' rights and neighborhood integrity harmoniously co-exist. Sign this petition to aid us in urging the Council to revise the 10,000-lbs property weight limit ordinance.
