As a resident of Ohio, I have personally experienced the struggle of keeping up with rent as landlords continue to raise prices. This is not just my story, but that of many working-class residents who are finding it increasingly difficult to stay in their homes, apartments, and mobile home parks due to escalating rental costs.

In most states across the U.S., there is a law in place that restricts landlords from increasing rent by more than 3% per year. Unfortunately, Ohio does not currently have such a regulation. The absence of this law puts an undue burden on tenants who are often left at the mercy of their landlords' discretion.

According to data from Zillow (2019), rental prices in Ohio have been rising at an alarming rate over the past decade. This trend shows no sign of slowing down unless legislative action is taken.

We believe that implementing a similar 3% cap on annual rent increases in Ohio would provide much-needed relief for tenants and create a more balanced housing market where everyone can afford to live comfortably.

This petition calls on our state legislators to enact rent control laws similar to those found in other states across America. It's time for us to join them and protect our residents from excessive rental price hikes.
