I am direct witness to the massive benefits that can come from an up-to-date and well-managed CCTV system. But as it stands, many of us struggle to access recent footage when it is most needed. This personal connection comes from my own firsthand experiences. In my hometown of Harapan, there has been a noticeable increase in petty crime rates due to the non-availability of recent CCTV footage. The potential for CCTV systems to deter crime, create a safer community, and help in solving criminal cases is enormous--if we have regular, timely updates of the footage.

According to data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, CCTV cameras have the potential to decrease crime by 20% in an area where they are installed and properly maintained, including regular footage updates. Without frequent updates, however, the effectiveness of these systems dramatically decreases.
