Implement 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' as a Subject in Lagos State Schools

Implement 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' as a Subject in Lagos State Schools
The Issue
I am a resident of Lagos state, deeply committed to the environment, our "bioverse," and the impact we have on it. The issue at hand is personal to me because I believe that education is the key to creating sustainable change. Our current curriculum does not adequately address the importance of reducing waste, reusing resources, and recycling materials. This gap in our education system contributes to environmental problems like flooding, which we frequently experience.
We often hear about these issues on media platforms, but there seems to be little action taken towards addressing the root cause - improper waste management. While it may seem intricate and complex, it's imperative that we take holistic and sustainable actions now for the sake of our future generations.
By incorporating the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' as a subject in all schools within Lagos state jurisdiction, we can equip our children with the knowledge and skills they need to protect their environment. According to UNICEF (2019), environmental education can lead to behavior changes that could help reduce household waste by 28%.
We cannot change the failing economy overnight, but we can start making an impact on protecting Mother Nature, who provides us with essential resources for survival.
I urge you all - parents, teachers, students alike - let's petition the Lagos State Government together! Let's ensure 'Reduce, Reuse & Recycle' (bioverse) becomes an integral part of our children's learning journey so they grow up understanding their role in preserving this beautiful planet and promote biodiversity as a lifestyle.
Please sign this petition today as an important first step in protecting our Bioverse and ensuring a sustainable future.
