Implement Real-name Policy and Obligatory ID Verification on Social Media Platforms

Implement Real-name Policy and Obligatory ID Verification on Social Media Platforms
The Issue
As an influencer on various social media platforms, I have personally experienced and witnessed the disconcerting reality of anonymous cyberbullying and the propagation of fake accounts intended for scams. These accounts often impersonate influential figures, tricking genuine people out of thousands of dollars while tarnishing the reputations of those they impersonate. The fallout extends beyond the virtual world, causing harm and affecting real lives. Platforms like TikTok urgently need to start insisting on user identity verification.
Anonymity on social media platforms has been exploited negatively in many ways, enthusiastic activities which in 2021 alone, increased global cybercrime damages to an alarming $6 Trillion USD, according to Cybersecurity ventures. However, we can significantly mitigate these issues by incorporating real-name policies and mandating the upload of government-issued IDs during account registration.
Such measures would deter many potential cyberbullies and scammers. This not only contributes to a safer online community but also promotes accountability and discourages harmful and illicit activities. Platforms like South Korea's 'Cyworld' have adopted a real-name policy and saw a drastic reduction in malicious activities.
Through this petition, we call for all social media platforms to take immediate steps towards implementing a mandatory real-name policy and ID verification process. By signing this petition, you push for a safer, respectful, more accountable online world, free from the shadows cast by anonymity. Please, give your support, and sign the petition.
