Implement Quiet Carriages on Perth Trains for Sensory Sensitive Individuals

Implement Quiet Carriages on Perth Trains for Sensory Sensitive Individuals
The issue
As a person who is diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, C-PTSD, and Misophonia, public transport, particularly trains, can be an excruciating ordeal.
The intense sensory input; loud conversations, intrusive phone tones, potent aftershave, and noisy eating, can cause overwhelming sensory overload and overstimulation. Unfortunately, this is a reality for many individuals in Perth, WA, Australia, where the trains do not have designated quiet spaces.
Many of us suffer in silence, needing a reprieve during our public transport journeys. Globally, there is increasing recognition of the requirements for these accommodations. Railway networks in areas such as the UK have successfully implemented 'silent' or 'quiet carriages' and in several nordic countries sensory sensitivity measures are built into their legislation, aiming to provide a calm and less stimulating environment.
Beyond individuals with sensory sensitivities and mental health concerns, there's also a broader range of passengers who would appreciate quiet carriages: those seeking mental rest, a quiet environment to work or study, mothers with sleeping infants, and the elderly, among others.
As such, I am advocating for the introduction of quiet carriages on Perth trains. This implementation will ensure a more inclusive and supportive public transport system, acknowledging the diverse physical and mental health needs of its community members.
The accommodation of quiet carriages is not just an option, but a necessary step towards inclusivity and diversity in our public service environments. Let's facilitate change for a more mindful and considerate public transport experience.
Please, sign this petition that will be added to mu university assignment and sent on the Transperth as well as Rita Saffioti MLA (Minister for Transport) to support the introduction of quiet carriages on Perth trains.
