As students in close proximity to the Rail Trail, its significance and value to our community cannot be overstated. This winding stretch of trail is more than just a path - it serves as an escape from the indoor routine for countless locals, offering a breath of fresh West Virginian air and an environment rich in natural beauty. However, the upkeep of cleanliness and safety on the Rail Trail is a concern. 

Our trail should be an escape where everyone is safe, and it must remain clean and enjoyable for all users. By installing positive messaging through signage along the trail, we can encourage all trail-goers to keep it clean and free from graffiti! We hope to have signs that promote positive action along the trail, in a yard sign fashion or metal signs. Signage can also serve as a reminder to us all that we share this space with others, and what each of us does can directly impact the experience of others. 

According to Keep America Beautiful, communities that use positive, empowering messages in considered locations can significantly reduce littering and improve overall community cleanliness (Keep America Beautiful, 2017). By applying this strategy to our trail, we can make strides in retaining its charm and appeal while boosting its safety.

The Rail Trail is a core part of our community and way of life. Now, we must step up and preserve it.
