I was once a child misunderstood by my parents, unheard because of my age. This experience is not unique to me but shared by countless children worldwide. We need to address this issue head-on, preventing child abuse and parenting errors that can lead to mental illness and trauma in children.

According to the World Health Organization, up to 1 billion minors between 2-17 years have experienced physical, emotional or sexual violence in a year (WHO). The American Society for the Positive Care of Children adds that about 14% of all men in prison and 36% of women in prison were abused as children, approximately twice the frequency seen in the general population.

We must implement policies that provide parents with proper education on child-rearing practices. Such initiatives will help prevent misunderstandings between parents and their offspring while ensuring that children's voices are heard regardless of their age.
