Living a life filled with constant precautions, anxiety and fear due to potential shootings isn't a way anyone should live. Especially when we're referring to public and crowded spaces like our local splash pads in IL, places meant for family, laughter, and joy. It is with a heavy heart that I share this personal anxiety and know that I am not alone in feeling this dread. 

Shootings can happen anywhere, anytime. In the U.S., 2020 saw a total of 41,549 incidents of gun violence, leading to 19,379 deaths and 39,427 injuries (Gun Violence Archive). We need to prioritize the safety of our children and families before tragedy strikes, by proactively strengthening our security measures.

Therefore, this petition calls upon local authorities to employ a police officer or an armed security guard at all splash pads in different cities. This will provide a much-needed sense of security, allowing families to fully enjoy their time without any looming fear.
