Implement Police Presence at Tommy Douglas Secondary School to Combat Bullying

The Issue

On January 22nd, my child, amongst  other students were attacked on school property while teachers looked on without providing any assistance. The bullies continue to torment the victims daily by gathering their friends and other students to join in the bullying and taunting. Including a teacher to allow his students to rein-act the fight and laugh at the victims. This is not an isolated incident but a recurring problem that has been overlooked for too long at Tommy Douglas Secondary School.

Bullying is a serious issue that affects many children and adolescents. According to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, 47% of Canadian parents report having a child victim of bullying. Any form of bullying can lead to severe emotional trauma and mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.

We believe that implementing police presence in our school will serve as a deterrent against such harmful behaviors and provide an immediate response when incidents occur. It's time we take decisive action against this rampant issue plaguing our educational institutions.

We urge the school administration and local law enforcement agencies to collaborate towards this solution for ensuring safety within our schools' premises. We cannot stand by while our children suffer; they deserve a safe environment where education thrives unimpeded by fear.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer spaces for our children at Tommy Douglas Secondary School located in Woodbridge, ON
