Implement Paid Menstrual Leave in the UK

Implement Paid Menstrual Leave in the UK
The Issue
I am one of many women in the UK who suffer from debilitating pain and sickness during my menstrual cycle. This is not just a personal issue, but a societal one that affects millions of women nationwide. It's time for us to follow the example set by other countries and implement paid menstrual leave.
Spain has led Europe by being the first country on the continent to pass such a law. In Asia, Indonesia allows two days per cycle, Japan has had this law since 1947, South Korea grants one day per month, and Taiwan provides three days per year. These countries recognize that menstruation can be a significant impediment to work productivity and have taken steps to ensure women do not have to choose between their health and their livelihood.
In addition to these international examples, it's important to note that according to The Guardian (2019), 1 in 10 women in the UK are unable to work due to severe period pain. Yet there is no legal obligation for employers here in Britain to provide paid menstrual leave.
The time for change is now. We need legislation that acknowledges our needs as working women suffering from period-related conditions each month. Let us follow suit with Spain, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan by implementing laws for paid menstrual leave at work here in the UK.
Please sign this petition if you believe it's time we make this change happen!
