I am writing this urgently with the safety of my family and also many of my neighbours, indeed our local community, hanging precariously in balance. Our mobile home site currently lacks adequate protective measures — road crash barriers — that separate the road and our vulnerable homes. We live under the constant threat of a car veering off.  the common road traffic accidents that occur in the area is high. Having a road traffic accident on the hill would result in the vehicle impacting our back bedroom. Eg- landing on top of us, this would be life threatening regardless of the size of the vehicle.

This fear is not baseless — road traffic accidents are an uncomfortably common occurrence in our locale. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.35 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes, and between 20 and 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injuries (WHO road safety facts, 2018).

By requiring a road crash bar along the back of our mobile home site, we could significantly decrease this risk, providing us some peace of mind and a safer living environment. Our family, like other residents, deserves to live without fear of an impending catastrophic accident.

We call upon our local community leaders and policymakers to act swiftly. Implement road crash barrier installation at our mobile home site — it's a pivotal step towards ensuring that accidents do not turn into tragedies.
