The Issue

Many residents in our community, including myself, are voicing concerns over the escalating costs of our water bills. It has become increasingly apparent that the current practice of calculating wastewater charges based on overall water usage is not only unfair but also financially burdensome. This practice assumes that all consumed water ends up as wastewater, disregarding any water used for gardening, cleaning, or other activities that do not contribute to sewerage.

The methodology fails to provide an accurate representation of wastewater generation, resulting in inflated bills that do not reflect actual usage. Therefore, I propose that wastewater billing should instead rely on actual meter readings. By implementing this change, we can ensure fair pricing based on precise data rather than estimations.

Residential areas across our state are experiencing financial strain due to inaccurately calculated wastewater charges. Multiple stories from neighbors, friends, and family confirm that not all of the water we pay for as wastewater even reaches the sewage system. Mapping every drop as wastewater is not only inaccurate but also leaves those on tight budgets at a disadvantage.

By requiring meters for wastewater, we empower consumers with transparency and control over their expenses. Accurate metering will promote water conservation by highlighting real consumption disparities. It allows households to better manage their resources and adjust their water usage effectively, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Let's push for a change that reflects actual usage, leading to more equitable billing practices. This can be achieved by advocating for the installation of suitable meters that accurately measure wastewater outflows. Urging local authorities to reconsider the billing system will address the frustrations of countless residents facing exorbitant fees.

Demanding this change signifies a step towards fairness and accuracy in our billing systems. Join the movement by signing this petition to request metered wastewater billing, ensuring a just and economically sustainable solution for all. Together, our voices can make this vital change a reality.
