I came forward with this petition because of the tragically frequent school shootings that ensue across the nation. School is supposed to be where our young are safe and nurtured, yet the reality is turning out to be far from it and that disturbs me. We cannot sit idly by and wait for gun laws to reform, but we can take immediate action to ensure the safety of our children. 

This petition calls for the immediate setup of metal detectors at the entrance of Spruce Creek High School throughout the school hours. In a study conducted by National School Safety and Security Services, high schools with safety measures like metal detectors saw decreased rates of weapons incidents. Implementing this security measure is a step towards creating a physical barrier which can deter potential offenders and protect our students.

School safety should not be a reactive measure, but a proactive one. This is our chance to fortify our defenses, ensure the safety of Spruce Creek's students, and possibly set a positive precedent for other schools across our nation. We are not trying to generate fear, but implement preventative measures. Let's strive to make our schools safer and protect the leaders of tomorrow.
