Implement Mandatory Voter Identification During Elections

Implement Mandatory Voter Identification During Elections
The Issue
My frustration with the voting system in our state, which lacks a required identification verification step, is shaped by my personal experiences and fears of identity theft. It feels as if anyone can pretend to be someone else with nothing keeping them in check. Therefore, I am calling for a rightful change, necessitating the presence of mandatory voter identification during elections. I consider voting to be a sacred right and a fundamental process in a democratic society. It enables citizens to have a voice. Yet, it's shocking to me how easy it is for anyone, through identity theft, to assume someone else's identity at the voting booth, as there is no strict regulation demanding the identification of voters.
According to a survey by Javelin, there were over 14.4 million victims of identity theft in the United States in 2018 (source: Javelin Strategy & Research, 2019). It is possible that some of those unscrupulous individuals might use someone else's identity at the voting booth thereby allowing fraudulent votes to be counted. This fuels a potential demographic distortion and possibly leading to the acceptance of laws that do not reflect the will of the true electorate.
Resorting to such change is not just an emotional plea but capitalizes on empirical data. It has been witnessed that as per the Federal Trade Commission, 2.2 million Americans experienced cases of Identity Fraud in 2020 alone. This translates into an urgent call, reinforcing the need for stronger checks and balances in our democratic process, especially voting, which is the inviolable right of every citizen. In the absence of strict identification procedures during elections, we risk the integrity of our voting system. Adding a layer of security through required identification can significantly reduce the chances of fraudulent voting and maintain the sanctity of our elections.
Implementing an identification verification system as a prerequisite to cast a vote could be a solution to lessen the possibility of identity theft and to ensure the authenticity of every vote. It is time to respect the sanctity of democracy by safeguarding the honesty of every individual's vote against potential identity theft or other fraudulent activities. It is time to ensure the integrity and accuracy of our voting process.
Join me in pushing for this change and let us advocate for the enforcement of identification verification. Please help make this change and sign this petition.
