When I was in school, a close friend was viciously attacked in her own apartment complex, a harrowing experience that left a lasting scar. Sadly, this is not an isolated event. Countless children in India are vulnerable to such horrifying incidents due to rising rape cases, highlighting the pressing need for self-defence education in schools.
We're urging the education boards all over India to introduce compulsory self-defence classes, starting as early as Jr. KG upto graduation. These classes will empower all students, allowing them to defend themselves confidently when necessary. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, a sexual offence is committed every 15 minutes in India, indicating the urgency of this petition.
The current curriculum doesn't equip our children with the skills they need to defend themselves in a dangerous situation. This gap in our education system must be addressed. We implore the school boards to integrate these classes into the regular school programme, helping students understand their importance.
Embedding self-defence into our education from a young age not only ensures children's safety but also builds their self-confidence, resilience, and discipline, while ultimately contributing to a decrease in these grim statistics.
