The Issue

I am a concerned father and husband from Aliso Viejo, CA, USA. Today, a child on an e-bike cut me off in traffic. It was an extremely close call that could have resulted in severe trauma/physical injury for both of us. This is not just my story; it's the story of many others who share the road with underage e-bike riders.

E-bikes are becoming increasingly popular among children and young adults from grades 7-12. However, their lack of experience and understanding of traffic rules pose life-threatening situations for themselves and other road users. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there has been a significant increase in accidents involving e-bikes over recent years.

California law currently does not require licensing or education for underage riders on these potentially dangerous vehicles - this needs to change. We are calling on local authorities to implement mandatory licensing for underage e-bike riders in Aliso Viejo, CA.

This license should involve a comprehensive training program that educates young riders about traffic rules, safe riding techniques, and the potential dangers they may face on the road. By doing so we can ensure safer roads for everyone - drivers, pedestrians and our children alike.

Please sign this petition if you believe that our children's safety is paramount and support mandatory licensing requirements for underage e-bike riders.
