I lost my baby boy to a heart condition that was undetected at birth. This is a tragedy no parent should ever have to endure. Every year, thousands of babies are born with congenital heart defects (CHDs), the most common type of birth defect. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that about 1 in every 4 babies born with a heart defect has a critical CHD (CDC, 2020). However, many of these conditions go unnoticed until it's too late.

Heart scans can detect these issues early on, potentially saving countless lives. Yet, they're not part of the standard tests performed on newborns. We need to change this.

We call upon health authorities and policymakers to implement mandatory heart scans for all newborns. Early detection can lead to early intervention and could save lives - perhaps even the life of your child or grandchild one day.
