Our children are the future custodians of the Earth, yet global education systems lack comprehensive environmental education. Planet Earth is experiencing an escalating climate crisis, evidenced by frequent extreme weather conditions, rising sea levels, and dwindling biodiversity. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that human activities are currently responsible for approximately 1°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels, with a likely rise to 1.5°C between 2030 and 2052 if it continues at the current rate (Source: IPCC Special Report, 2018). Despite these dire circumstances, environmental education is not a compulsory component of curriculum in numerous countries around the globe. To reshape the future, we must empower the younger generation with adequate knowledge about environmental issues, their causes, effects, and the attainable solutions. This is a call for governments worldwide to revise their educational curriculums and integrate mandatory environmental education, which will equip our children to battle climate change, promote sustainable living, and safeguard the future of our planet.
