Implement Mandatory Display of Badges for Parent and Child Car Spaces

Implement Mandatory Display of Badges for Parent and Child Car Spaces
The Issue
As a parent to a two-year-old son, I have experienced countless instances where I've had to precariously squeeze my child out of the car, trying not to hit another vehicle with my car door. This is because the designated parent and child spaces are frequently misused, forcing me to park in regular spaces. It's not uncommon for these spots to be occupied by individuals without children or even those driving vans who clearly don't need them.
This misuse of parent and child parking spaces is more than an inconvenience; it poses safety risks for young children and their parents alike. To address this issue, we propose that anyone using a parent and child car space should be required to display a badge indicating their eligibility. These badges would be provided in the red medical book given to parents upon the birth of their child and would expire on the child's 5th birthday.
This system would operate similarly to the current blue badges used by disabled people - which are less regularly abused due to enforceable consequences. By implementing this badge system for parent-child parking spaces, we can deter misuse while providing much-needed support for parents with young children.
Let's ensure that these parking spots serve those they were intended for - parents struggling with prams, toddlers learning how-to-walk, or simply ensuring safe transfer from cars without risking damage or injury. Please sign this petition today!
