Implement Light Rail for Rural East Sussex

The Issue

Living in rural areas of East Sussex without a car has been my reality for three challenging years. As a 13-year-old, I faced the hardship of having only a single bus every two hours or sometimes none at all, as on-demand buses would often overlook my family's needs. My family, which struggles financially, heavily relies on public transit to get to school, work, and other essential places.

The current state of public transportation in rural East Sussex is unreliable and inaccessible. For families like mine, as well as commuters, hikers, cyclists, and the elderly, this presents significant barriers to everyday life and mobility. The introduction of light rail and trams in these rural and urban areas could transform our community, offering a sustainable and efficient transit option that meets everyone's needs.

Reliable transportation is vital in ensuring equal opportunities across all regions, not just in urban centers. Trams can bridge the gap, reducing reliance on inadequate bus services and providing frequent, environment-friendly, and safe transport solutions. Not only will this support local economies by making it easier for people to travel to work and contribute, but it will also offer independence to those without personal vehicles.

The implementation of light rail and trams across East Sussex must be seriously considered by local government authorities. This development will not just respect the needs of the residents, making the community more livable, but also align with environmental goals, reducing carbon emissions significantly.

I urge the East Sussex Council to prioritize upgrading our transport infrastructure, starting with a feasibility study to incorporate light rail systems. It's time for positive change and for rural areas to receive the transport respect they deserve.

Please sign this petition to advocate for a light rail system that connects all of us, leaving no one behind and i also propose a route to help some of it
