I am a grandmother from Wichita Falls, TX, who has been the target of false allegations reported to Child Protective Services (CPS). This personal experience has exposed a significant flaw in our system where individuals can misuse CPS as a weapon out of spite or malice, causing unnecessary distress and harm to innocent families.

False reports not only waste valuable resources but also divert attention away from children who genuinely need protection. According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 2-10% of child abuse allegations are proven false each year. However, these statistics do not account for unproven cases that may still cause significant emotional trauma and damage to those accused.

We propose that local laws be amended so that individuals falsely accused can press charges against those who file baseless claims. This measure would deter people from making malicious reports and ensure CPS can focus on genuine cases.
