Frustrations with the current political landscape in Australia have brought me, a vigilant citizen, to the forefront of this issue. I want to address a loophole in our democracy – the legality of coalition agreements.

Coalition agreements have allowed parties that do not necessarily hold a majority of seats on their own to govern, often circumventing the will of the majority. Although these pacts provide stability in a hung parliament, they can also skew the democratic process.

There is a need for democratic reforms that prohibit such agreements, to ensure that the party with the largest voter base forms the government, preserving the democratic mandate bestowed by the citizenry. This is crucial; after all, government should reflect the choice of the majority, thereby justifying its right to govern.
