Implement Law to Restrict Social Media Use for Canadian Minors Under 18

The Issue

As a mother who has firsthand witnessed the damaging effects of online bullying, I cannot sit idly by and watch our children continue to suffer. The pandemonium of social media is wreaking havoc on our youngsters' lives, disrupting their mental development during the primal years.

We yearn for a simpler time, before social media began to rule and ruin lives unbridled. It's high time we set limitations on its rampant misuse.

Facebook (META) has made moves to protect teens from harmful messages that have proven to put teens at risk as of Sept.17th. This isn't enough.

One heartbreaking incident is the story of 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick in the U.S. who fell victim to extensive online bullying in 2013. She was tormented ceaselessly on various social media platforms by schoolmates, to the point where she switched schools. However, the barrage of unsolicited, merciless digital torment followed her, leading to the unthinkable a year and a half later when Rebecca took her own life.

It's not just about returning to a simpler time before the internet ruled every aspect of our lives, it's about protecting our children from detrimental, invisible aggressors. Implementing a law that restricts social media use for Canadians under 18 could be the first step in rectifying this growing epidemic. Our children have the right to grow and mature in a safe environment.

Join me today in taking a stance against this traumatizing exposure to virtual bullying by pushing for legislation that shields our kids until they reach 18. Invest in their protection now, because their futures depend on it. Please sign this petition.
