The Issue

On a dark day that will forever remain etched in our community's memory, we lost a little light named Izabella. Despite several reports made to Child Protective Services (CPS) about the abuse she endured and visible signs of harm on her, Izabella was never removed from her dangerous environment. Her tragic end is an unequivocal sign of the system's failure to protect innocent lives.

Izabella lived in a house with a man with a history of child abuse, along with her siblings, who are also at risk. The disgraceful, fatal consequence of this neglect calls for change. And with your signatures, we aim to initiate this change by starting Izabella's Law, mandating better oversight by CPS. We appeal for this law to require CPS and relevant authorities to conduct wellness checks, especially in homes with a history of abuse. Random reviews every two months must become mandatory. Under Izabella’s Law, CPS will be legally obliged to remove children at a mere suspicion of abuse until an investigation is over.

The mandate will extend to all children in the family, ensuring CPS is compelled to account for everyone under its purview. Furthermore, Izabella's Law will establish stronger collaboration with healthcare professionals to confirm the well-being of the children involved. This will provide an additional safety net, as numerous studies have indicated that medical professionals' input can significantly improve the identification and prevention of child abuse.

Izabella's story forces us to confront a harsh reality, but it also gives us the resolve to prevent such a tragedy from recurring. Stand as the voice for the voiceless, for those children living in fear, and for little Izabella, who should be among us today. Sign this petition and support making Izabella's Law a reality.
