Implement Inclusive Sexual Education Policies for All Students

The Issue

LGBTQ+ youth face the largest legislative and judicial onslaught against their rights in U.S. history, in which the need to protect LGBTQ+ youth is greater than ever. Across the country, outdated and discriminatory sex education policies continue to put LGBTQ+ students at risk by denying them access to accurate, inclusive, and affirming information about their health and identities.

In states like Texas, harmful “No Promo Homo” laws still prohibit educators from discussing same-sex relationships or LGBTQ+ topics in sex education. These policies reinforce stigma, increase rates of bullying, and leave LGBTQ+ youth dangerously uninformed — isolating them in classrooms meant to educate and protect.

Research overwhelmingly shows that inclusive, comprehensive sex education benefits all students by promoting healthy relationships, reducing bullying, and lowering STI rates. International leaders like Sweden and the Netherlands have long demonstrated the positive, real-world impacts of LGBTQ+ inclusive education, and it’s time the United States catches up.

We are calling on Representatives Alma Adams and Barbara Lee to repeal discriminatory laws and mandate LGBTQ+ inclusive sex education in every public school. This must include:

Mandatory LGBTQ+ inclusion training for teachers and school staff

Access to mental health resources and support services for LGBTQ+ youth

Safe spaces and student support groups in schools

Comprehensive, accurate, and affirming sex education for all students
