Implement hole life orders for sex offends
The Issue
I know firsthand the painful and lasting impact of being a victim of a sex crime. It is a devastating experience, one that leaves deep scars not just physically but emotionally, and the effects can last a lifetime. Despite trying to move forward, the sense of violation never completely fades, and the fear remains ever-present in the shadows. It is this personal ordeal that drives me to demand stricter sentencing for individuals who commit heinous sexual offences.
Imagine a society where offenders who commit repeated acts of brutality against children or vulnerable adults can return to the community after serving their sentences. Should people who have violated the trust of a position of authority or demonstrated sadistic cruelty during their crimes get a chance to walk the streets freely again? Each year, countless individuals find themselves stripped of their dignity and their safety due to these severe crimes, often left to navigate through their trauma while their perpetrators live free. According to studies, repeat offenders pose a significantly higher risk to re-offend, especially if past crimes involved cruelty or abuse of trust.
To protect our communities and ensure justice for victims, I propose that we implement mandatory whole life sentences for individuals who commit severe sexual offences. This includes cases that are a third strike, involve cruelty or sadism, result in death, or are an abuse of trust or authority. There should be no option for early release; life should mean life – no release ever. This policy recognizes that some actions are so atrocious they warrant the strongest possible punishment.
Furthermore, the argument of mental health should not be a viable means to reduce sentencing in these cases. Each victim deserves the peace of mind that their attacker will never harm another individual again. For crimes against children, a strict reasonable belief of age defence should be enforced and must only be considered with proven, incontrovertible evidence and no other accusations present.
This change is not merely punitive but serves a preventive role. By eliminating the possibility of release, it acts as a deterrent against potential offenders. Ensuring these individuals remain behind bars forever also ensures our communities are safer, and the nightmares of their victims are not amplified by the knowledge that their abuser is free.
Join me in advocating for this critical change. Let us stand together to protect the vulnerable and uphold justice. Sign this petition to demand that our legal system reflects the severity and lasting impact of these crimes. With your support, we can foster a society where the safety and sanctity of individuals are prioritized above all.
