Like many other concerned citizens, the increasing rates of sexual assault and child abuse in the UK leave me feeling distressed and frustrated. Facts reflect this harsh reality .One in nine girls and one in 53 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse (RAINN). It's disheartening that these grievous acts are often met with lenient sentences, failing to provide justice for the victims and deterrence for the perpetrators. 

This petition calls on lawmakers to amend laws pertaining to sexual assault and child abuse, incorporating stricter and more extended punishments. This reform is indispensable not just out of fairness for victims, but as an urgent societal safety measure. We need regulations that truly reflect the severity of these offenses, appropriately penalizing offenders, and discouraging potential perpetrators.

It is high time to bring about a resolute stand to deter such heinous crimes, and this begins with our laws. Through enacting stricter punishments, we send a clear message - our society is no longer willing to tolerate these outrageous violations against its most vulnerable members.
